Nostradamus did predict "a man in a scarf" would start a horrendous war, and I have heard people talking about this. I'm not a follower of his though.
But... I think the Israelis are under immense pressure this time. They should have seen it coming.

Britain, us, we, yoo, well your ancestors effectively created Israel, when we effed off from Palestine in 1948, which we had administered (ruled) for years, leaving them, the Arabs and the Jews to fight it out between themselves on who would rule the country.

Eggbeater - I'll be more than happy to debate you anytime on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. But this is not that time. True that Israel in the past has killed Palestinians but it has never deliberately gone out to kill civilians. As I write this, there is a massacre of 260 kids who were at a music festival where terrorists just came along and murdered them for no reason at all. All day, my wife has been in contact with her assistant because her parents have been locked in a bomb shelter on their kibbutz for the last 40 hours and we don't know if they are dead or have been kidnapped or what has happened to them and they are pensioners. To kidnap the elderly, women and children as young as 1 year old is inhuman. There are young women who have been kidnapped and the mother is getting phone calls with men explicitly saying what they are doing to their beautiful daughters. Thank you everyone else for your wishes for me and my family. I will try and keep you updated but now I see that the international press are covering it. There is a lot of stuff not come out yet and it is not pretty. Some of it is on social media. PS - As you noticed this is spelt well so you can know its not me typing but the wife....

Too Tonker and First Mate.

Was the Balfour Declaration of 1917 acted upon ?

No it wasn't, because it was a furniture polish, it was a Pledge, and it was done to placate the Americans in WW1.

The Jewish state was formed in 1948 after the British left Palestine, some 31 years and another World War later.

Why

After WW2 Britain had to go cap in hand to America and literally beg for money, for a loan, because we were skint, broke, and like in WW1 and WW2, the American Jewish lobby had a lot of influence over the American government, and in return for a loan of $3.75 billion, and under pressure from the Americans and the fact that Britain could no longer afford it, Britain started to dismantle the British Empire, so it is not hard to imagine why Britain pulled out of Palestine is it, the Americans wanted them to go so that the Jews would have a homeland, but it was Britain pulling out of Palestine which allowed the creation of the Jewish State in 1948 not in 1917.

Hi Erin

You are right it is getting bad over there, and it could get worse, I was watching Biden's speech earlier on, and I know he is not your man, but he was seething about it, and if it is proved that Iran has funded, equipped and armed Hamas, then not only will Israel attack Iran, but America will probably attack Iran too, because Russia is bogged down in Ukraine, and Russia may have even encouraged Iran to cause trouble in Israel to divert attention from Ukraine, and draw America away from supporting Ukraine, but Russia has consistently got it wrong about the America and the West's response to Russia's actions, so America may also attack Iran to put paid once and for all to Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Replied: 10th Oct 2023 at 23:17

True Iran funds Hamas and also Hezbollah in Lebanon but I don't think what Hamas did was under orders from Iran. I believe that Hamas got "lucky" when it got through the border fence and took over and then it snowballed. The USA fleet has been brought in off the coast of Israel in case the violence expands with Hezbollah and Iran - but I don't think it will - its a deterrent. Blaming Iran, I believe is the same as what Bush did blaming Iraq. Saying that nothing explains and excuses that Hamas (not the the Palestinian people) did. Don't believe every word that Bibi says.

If the Israelites do the above, they are as guilty as Hamas. So that would make the Israelites terrorists if they just kill and maim anyone in their way regardless if they are innocent civillians, and children!

i will try to answer In Gaza a lot of the buildings are built on legs so the ground floor has a space to park cars so what happens the missile battery is parked under the building and israel knows this the pilots see them!! so what do you do ?? they know that the building have family's inside... Then they pull the Missile battery out fire them and pull them back under the building
about israel firing Missiles at buildings there are not like Hamas just firing at towns and hoping for the best .... The protocol is before the air force fires it has to phone the civilians in the building to give them time to leave... Or they fire a small missile first what they call a knock on the door to give notice what is going to happen and then there flatten the building ..... just to add at this moment there are Hamas terrorists being treated in the same hospitals as the people they shot.... hospital

This war was not started last week!
It started in 1948 when the Israel state was created and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced from their homeland after the conflict

By 15 May 1948, the population was 805,900, of which 649,600, i.e. 80.6%, were Jews and 156,000, i.e. 19.4%, were the remaining Palestinians of the region which was occupied and named as Israel later on.
The first war (1948–49) began when Israel declared itself an independent state following the United Nations' partition of Palestine. Protesting this move, five Arab countries—Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria—attacked Israel. The conflict ended with Israel gaining considerable territory.

In 1948, more than 700,000 Palestinian Arabs – about half of prewar Palestine's Arab population – fled from their homes or were expelled by Zionist militias during the 1948 Palestine war.750,000 Palestinians were displaced ,
Gaffer.
Thats the bottom line!
That is quoted from the internet.

I appreciate your input, Peter as you know first hand what is going on.
I hope you are all safe.
The point that I was making is that there are two sides in a conflict, two versions of the cause of a conflict, and then there is the truth.
History is history. We cant change that at the moment.

Surfertom.
What happened on 7th October was totally horrendous. But the conflict started in 1948, not on the 7th October! What happened then was another awful massacre in an ongoing conflict.

What's 'the west' got to do with it?

Cheshirecat, it didn't 'start in 1948' at all. They've been fighting each other, down there, for thousands of years! The 1948 event was an attempt to stop the agro, once and for all. But, how arrogant of the British to even think they could stop it so easily?

"Cheshire cat

Why did the west bomb Iraq and kill thousands for nothing believing that there were weapons of mass destruction in the country?
That was proved to be a complete fabrication, as no weapons were found
What is your opinion on that?

think your getting confused Saddam Hussein Was a brutal leader of Iraq baath party who who dropped
Chemical weapons on his own people wiped villages out he was the president and also the prime minister who supported terrorist groups that's why the Iraq people tried him and executed him good riddance

The Americans were determined to introduce democracy to Iraq without understanding the Arab mindset. The war strategy was doomed to fail and its legacy is a very sad one for the people of Iraq.
The execution of Saddam Hussein and Colonel Gaddafi opened the doors to much of the migration from the African continent that we see today.

SurferTOM

Saddam Hussein was a Sunni leading a country with a Shia majority. The Iranian revolution brought a Shia country hostile to Saddam Hussein.Since time immemorial Shia and Sunni have been at each others throats. The American backing for Iran against Iraq led to thousands of Sunni and Shia deaths. This was the tribal part the Americans didn’t understand when they tried to impose democracy on Iraq which would have led to it becoming a fully Shia country.Saddam Hussein wasn’t best pleased.
You would have thought the Americans would have at least have considered the long term outcome when they deposed the Shah of Iran, their equivalent of a king. It was a US strategy that brought the religious leadership to Iran. The rest is history and a more uncertain world.

It was the same in Rwanda with the Hutu and Tutsi with countless killed on both sides.

Well explained, Gaffer.
Libya is also now a lot worse off and a country in turmoil since the demise of Gadaffi, due to the West intervening in their business.

So, Surfertom.
The next time you complain about the amount of immigrants coming into our country, the West was part of the cause
